It’s hard to believe it’s been over six months since my last post on this site! It’s already April again, National Poetry Writing Month. And in Victoria, spring is emerging, just in time to whet poetic appetites.

Rhododendron blooming, early April. I’ve lived here over five years now and am still awed by the amazing flowers of this city.

On April 6 I did a short talk about my journey into poetry, for the Capital Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Victoria. I had fun preparing the talk, and learned a lot as I read about the insights and thoughts of other poets.

Then, after all that reading and learning, I was challenged to distill my material into a brief talk. I left out more than I put in!

Here’s the link to the talk, which is about 17 minutes long. After the talk, we had a discussion circle (which I refer to as the “forum” at the end of my talk). During the conversation circle some people shared their own poems, or offered their own thoughts on the creative process. I found the morning inspiring, and it made me even more enthusiastic to keep writing poems.
