I posted back in April about a talk I gave to Capital Unitarians about my journey into poetry. At the end of November I gave a version of the same talk to the larger Unitarian congregation in Victoria, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Victoria.

I talked about where my poems come from. Living close to nature has always been important for me, and one source of poetic inspiration.

Even though I’d already given the talk once, I found myself reworking the script. I enjoyed preparing it, and it’s led me to reflect on my own journey of how I have moved from technical writing into expressing myself through poetry.

Before I gave the talk, I read a poem by Zoe Dickinson for a land acknowledgement. I’ve mentioned Zoe’s work before on this site. Her poem is powerful. You can find both the poem, and my talk, at the links below. I’ve given time stamps to help you find your way in the video, if you do not want to watch the whole service.

Reading of Zoe Dickinson poem I’d Like to Start by Acknowledging — starts at 7:31, a little over 3 min long

Talk “Journeying into Poetry”, starts at 37:14, goes to about 55:39 (about 18 min long)
